Obituary

On Monday, April 5 th , 2021, David Russell Duncan, loving husband and caring father of four children, passed away peacefully at the age of 76. David was born on July 14 th , 1944 to Russell and Martha Ann Duncan. He was raised in Martin, Tennessee and graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin in 1967. On October 24, 1970 he married Nancy Fowler Anderson. Together they raised two daughters: Teresa and Dee, and two sons: Bob and Brian. For over 45 years he worked for the citizens of northwest Tennessee in the Department of Health and Human Services.

David had a passion for his faith and his family. He was a long-time member and deacon of the Baptist church. He served at Westside Baptist Church in Trenton, TN and then First Baptist Church of Dyersburg after his family moved in 1987. He enjoyed singing in the choir, helping with the youth, and participating in community outreach.  For almost 30 years, he and his wife led Sunday morning worship services to nursing home residents in Dyersburg. He loved his family and his family loved him. Always present but never desiring to be the center of attention, he was content just being with family and enjoying the fellowship. His easy-going nature and generous spirit endeared him to those whose lives he touched.

David was preceded in death by his father, Russell, his mother, Martha Ann, and his brother, Tom Duncan. He is survived by his wife Nancy, his four children and their spouses: Bob and Sarah Duncan, Teresa and Jeff Huffman, Brian and Jenny Duncan, and Dee and Matt Leggett, his sisters:  Ann Hall and Jenny Landrum, 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive visitors at Dyersburg Funeral Home from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 12 th , 2021.
