Darrah Morrison, born May 6, 1928, in Thaxton, Mississippi, the fifth of seven children passed away on September 13, 2023. She grew up in rural Mississippi where her parents instilled the value of faith and family, which she has passed on to the next generations. She was a state high school basketball champion and a prize-winning dressmaker, but her proudest achievement was being a beloved mother and grandmother.
Darrah loved her family and everyone she encountered, always offering a welcoming smile, compliment, and meal if she could. An active member of First Baptist Church, her Christian faith shown through every day through her attitude and how she treated and loved others. She was an avid gardener, cook, homemaker, seamstress, and loved her car which she liked to remind her family of after they had to take away the keys. She was dearly loved and will be forever missed by her family.
She is survived by her children, Lanny Morrison & Linda Brantley, her brother, Robert Hooker, her sister, Laveda Sewell, her four grandchildren, Emily Shauf, Anna Shearon, William & Maria Brantley and her seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerome & Edna Hooker, her husband, William "Bud" Morrison, her daughter Vinnie Jane Morrison, her brothers, Oakley, Gladney & Wendell Hooker and her sister, Kara Hale.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the special caregivers that provided Darrah comfort and aid the past 14 months, Diane Mayberry, Brenda Jackson, Darlene Tatum, Tomeka Ross, and Dorothy Cole.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2023. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Rev. Mike Hickman with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery.
Memorials should be directed to the Legacy Fund of First Baptist Church in Dyersburg.
