Danny Louis Tippit, 57, of Tiptonville, died Monday, Dec. 21, 2009 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City.

He was the sheriff of Lake County, a member of Wynnburg Baptist Church, a mason, has been involved in law enforcement for over 30 years, twice elected sheriff of Lake County, former police chief of Tiptonville and member of Mid-South Riders.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Wynnburg Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Byassee officiating. Burial will be in New Haven Cemetery

The family will receive visitors at 5:30-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Ridgely Chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Tate Tippit of Tiptonville; a son, Danny Louis Tippit Jr. and wife, Shelly, of Tiptonville; two sisters, Theresa Davis and husband, Ricky, and Cynthia Johnson and husband, Larry, all of Union City; a brother, Roger Tippit of Ridgely; two grandchildren, D.L. Tippit and Branden Curvin; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Mamie Tippit; a sister, Denise Johnson; and a brother, Eddie Tippit.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Avery, Shelby Barker, Joe England, Corey Glidewell, Tom Hollowell and Mario Montgomery. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Baucom, Billy Joe Cook, Leroy Cook, Nick Hollowell, Howard Tippit and Roger Shirley.

The family request that any memorials be directed to Wynnburg Baptist Church.
