Obituary

Claudia Smith passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Reelfoot Manor Nursing Home in Tiptonville, TN.

Claudia was a native of Tiptonville, TN. She was born November 22, 1947 in Tiptonville to Davy Burnett and Fred Robertson who preceded her in death. Also, one son, Fred Robertson Smith preceded her in death.

She was an artist and had worked several years at Reelfoot Manor Nursing Home. She was a member of Tiptonville First United Methodist Church and a member of the First United Methodist Women's organization.

Claudia exhibited her paintings at venues in West Tennessee. She continued to paint until her health prevented her from doing so. One of her favorite subjects were scenes of Reelfoot Lake. Recently she donated a painting to the Reelfoot Lake visitor's center and the Tiptonville Public Library.

She graduated Lake County High School in 1964. Mrs. Peggy Burrus of Tiptonville gave her art lessons when she was in high school. She attended Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky and Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky.

She is survived by her sons, Othal Smith III (Donna) of Calvert City, Kentucky and David Fredrick Smith (Leah) of Minton, North Dakota; and two grandchildren, Mary Olivia Smith and Austin Trey Smith of Calvert City, Kentucky. She is also survived by her sister, Fredricka Schleifer (Dr. Grover) of Union City; and two nieces, Davy Virginia Rainey (Warren) of Huntingdon, Tennessee and Fredrica Rebecca Schleifer of Tampa, Florida.

Memorial service for Mrs. Smith will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Tiptonville First United Methodist Church and conducted by the Rev. Marita Burkeen. Music will be provided by Dianne Homra. Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Saturday at the church. Interment will be at New Haven Cemetery, Ridgely, Tennessee at a later date. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
