Clair "Bert" Bertil Burkett, 84, of Ridgely, TN, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2023 at his residence.
Bert was born on August 17, 1939, in Hustburg, TN, to the late Hardy C. Burkett and Lettie Pearl Sager Burkett. He was a minister for the First United Pentecostal Church in Ridgely for 20 years and was the former minister of the First United Pentecostal Church in Tiptonville for 18 years. Bert served 20 years as the Sectional Secretary of the TN District First United Pentecostal Church and then went on to serve as the Sectional Director of Foreign Missions. He also received the Lifetime Achievement Award of the TN District of the First United Pentecostal Church. Bert was a retired self-employed carpenter, retired as a school bus driver and was the former Building Inspector and Zoning Compliance Officer for Tiptonville, Ridgely and Lake County.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, December 11, 2023 in the Ridgely Chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Rev. Jackie Wilkerson officiating. Burial will be in New Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, December 10, 2023 and from 12-2 p.m. Monday, December 11, 2023 at the Dyersburg Funeral Home Ridgely Chapel.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Lafferty Burkett of Ridgely, TN; a daughter, Regina Rhodes (Larry) of Ridgely, TN; four sons, Larry Burkett (Lori) of Dyersburg, TN, James Burkett and Philip Burkett, both of Ridgely, TN and Gerald Burkett of Tiptonville, TN; three sisters, Fannie Nunnery of Ridgely, TN, Betty Verlene Bray (Gil) of Tiptonville, TN and Corinne Buchanan (Richard) of Hornbeak, TN; nine grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Bert was preceded in death by two daughters, Lettie Rebecca Burkett and Sherrill Denise Burkett; three brothers, Larry Burkett, Ben Burkett and Lynn Burkett; two sisters, Geraldine Suiter and Mary Marvin; and two grandsons, Caden Burkett and Jacob Scott.
Pallbearers will be Larry Burkett, Philip Burkett, James Burkett, Gerald Burkett, Derek Campbell and Ryder Burkett.
