Chief James Edward Bishop, 69, of Dyersburg, TN, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at West Tennessee Healthcare Dyersburg Hospital.

James was born on March 4, 1953, in Finley, TN, to the late, Harold Edward Bishop and the late, Audrey Ruth Patterson Bishop. He served as Chief of Police in Halls for 7 years and prior to that, he served as Sergeant for 18 years with the Newbern Police Department. James loved his job and serving to protect the public. He loved to spend time with his family and his grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, August 11, 2022 in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Bro. Calvin Smith officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

The Bishop Family will receive visitors from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Dyersburg Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Sonda Bishop of Dyersburg, TN; two sons, Jeremy Bishop of Memphis, TN and Justin Bishop (Melissa) of Dyersburg, TN; two daughters, Amy Haywood (Breen) of Perry, OK and Ashlee Bishop of Dyersburg, TN' a brother, Billy Bishop of Finley, TN; three sisters, Rose White and Cindy Barham (Chucky Burk) all of Finley, TN and Jan Woody (Mike) of Dyersburg, TN; four grandchildren, Lauren Jones, Zachary Junior, Leelan Smith and Rilee Rai Bishop; and his K-9 companion, Baby Girl.

Pallbearers will be Mike Walker, Dennis "Scooter" Hardee, Justin Terry, Brian Myles, Lynn Waller and Justin Tate. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill French and Steve Everett.
