Charles Kendel Hendrix, Sr., age 72, of Dyersburg, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis.
He was the owner/operator of Thelma's Skateland in Dyersburg and Union City. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and was an avid pilot and member of the Civil Air Patrol. Mr. Hendrix was a skilled carpenter, an avid golfer, pool player and loved antique cars. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from 1959-1962.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Craig and Dr. David Russell officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
The family will receive visitors from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Hendrix of Dyersburg; three daughters, Tommie Hamilton and husband, Greg, of Obion, Anita Hendrix of Dyersburg and Michelle Simpson and husband, David, of Bartlett; a son, Charles Hendrix, Jr. and wife, Jackie, of Dyersburg; twelve grandchildren, Charlie Vestal, Gloria Ellis, Shane Hamilton, Lucas Hamilton, Indie Del Hendrix, Charles Kendel Hendrix III, Diana Paschal, Priscilla Gardner, Cecily Simpson, Christian Simpson, Preston Simpson and Braden Simpson; and eight great-grandchildren, Brylee Vestal, Lyndsay Reasons, Skilynn Lemons, Jameson Hamilton, Jackson Hamilton, Ella Hamilton, Lily Hamilton and Decklyn Roberson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Jester and Thelma Marie Woodard Hendrix; a sister, Evelyn Jordan; an infant grandson, Charles Kendel Hendrix III; and a great-grandchild, Bailey Hamilton.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Gallahaire, Charles Hendrix III, David Fisher, J. Dan Gullett, Jake Browning and Lowell Beck. Honorary pallbearers will be Jubilate Deo Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Community Cancer Fund or to First United Methodist Church.
