Charles Balentine, 94, of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009 at Dyersburg Manor Nursing Center.
He was a retired mail carrier, member of First United Methodist Church, former owner/manager of Dyersburg Hardware Store, an avid fisherman, 50-year Mason, member of Hess Lodge No. 94, and a staff sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Dyersburg Funeral Home with Dr. Phillip Cook officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Survivors include a sister, Martha Pope of California; a brother, Carmon Balentine of California; a niece who cared for him, Susanne Dement of Brighton; a special caregiver, Fay Rogers of Dyersburg; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 56 years, Lois Eudaly Balentine; his second wife of 15 years, Mellie Balentine; his parents, B.L. and Lora Balentine; and three brothers, Fred Balentine, Kerl Balentine and Royce Balentine.
Pallbearers will be Jack Marshall King, Dale King, Tommy Jowers, George Rice, James Hooper and Bill Ables. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Melton and Ed Blankenship.
The family requests that any memorials be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
