Obituary

Charles "Bubba" Maurice Agee, Jr., age 76, died Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at his home at Clover Creek Ranch in Hornbeak, Tennessee.

Charles—or Bubba as he was known to most—was born January 9, 1949 in Dyersburg, Tennessee, the son of the late Charles Maurice Agee and Martha Nell Agee. He earned his B. A. from The University of Tennessee at Martin and his Juris Doctor from The University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law.

A lion in the courtroom, Bubba fought for his clients throughout his legal career, which began in 1976 in Dyersburg. He primarily represented blue-collar people who sought justice for harm caused by powerful corporations and other monied interests, and his opposing counsel always found him to be a formidable adversary. His specialty was cross-examination, which was absolutely withering for any witness who was less than forthcoming. Bubba's passion for justice was obvious to anyone who ever saw him in action, particularly the hundreds of people whose lives he changed for the better during his long and successful legal career.

A respected member of the community, Bubba held multiple elected offices, including Alderman at Large and City Judge. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Dyersburg.

Bubba was most relaxed and content while spending time with his friends, children, and grandchildren, especially at his beloved Clover Creek Ranch. He loved simple pleasures like bushhogging his pastures, mending his fences, and counting his cows. He would light up when his children and grandchildren were able to join him and enjoy riding four wheelers and horses on his farm and fishing in the pond. In his prime, he was also an avid and accomplished golfer and, even later in life, made many great memories with his sons and grandsons at The Golf Club of Tennessee near Nashville. Bubba loved hosting his family for elegant dining experiences and did not miss many chances to raise a glass or get a thrill at the blackjack table.

Bubba is survived by two sons, Charles Agee (Gretchen) of Nashville, Wyn Agee (Kandice) of Memphis; two daughters, Leslie Agee (Teresa) of Dyersburg, Alex Agee (Caleb) of Memphis; four grandchildren, Charlie, Andrew, Kennedy, Brooks; and, two longstanding, loyal staff members of the Agee Law Firm, Stella Long and Sandra Miller, who are considered family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Phil, and his sister Debbie.
