Cecil Lamar "Buddy" Viar

Cecil Lamar “Buddy” Viar, born September 18, 1933, in Viar, Tennessee, passed away on September 22, 2026, at his residence. He was a man whose life reflected dedication to his work, devotion to his faith, and deep commitment to his family and community.

Mr. Viar retired as an electrician for Dyersburg Fabrics and also served as the former manager of Cablecom of Dyersburg. He proudly served in the Tennessee National Guard, and throughout his life remained active in several civic organizations. He was a member of First Pentecostal Church in Union City. Many also knew him as “Mr. Fix-it,” a name earned through his CB radio repair shop and the skillful, helpful spirit that became one of his hallmarks.

Above all, Buddy will be remembered by those who loved him most. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Viar of Dyersburg; his children, Michael Viar and his wife, Sheila, of Newbern, Jason Eric Viar and his wife, Isabel, of Newbern, Leon Viar of Nashville, Cynthia Viar Walker and her husband, Mike, of Clarksville, and Elisa Dawn Viar of Dyersburg. He is also survived by his sisters, Faye Porter of Humboldt and Brenda Thurman of Miramar Beach, Florida.

His legacy continues in the lives of his grandchildren and their families: Jessica McGehee (Josh), Alisha Davidson (John), Niki Murphy (Joel), Alex Viar, Jeremy Floyd (Eleisa), Jared Walker (Dr. Ashley), Lindsey Wilkerson (David), Stacey McNutt (John), Jacob Watts, Luke Watts (Lindsey), and Meagan McGuire (Tyler); thirteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren He leaves behind a family circle that will continue to cherish his memory with love and gratitude.

He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Burl Viar; his mother, Alma Ardell Seratt Viar; his brothers, Johnny Viar and Donald Viar; and his sisters, Joy Bumpious and Lunabell Gaskins.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026, from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Dyersburg Funeral Home, 420 US-51 ByPass W, Dyersburg, Tennessee. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Rev. David Wilkerson and Rev. Dwayne Uzzle officiating. Burial will be.at Fairview Cemetery.
