Ms. Catherine Jones Deweese, of Tiptonville, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at Saint Francis Hospital in Memphis.  She was born August 3, 1949 to the late Jimmie and Frances Jones and was life-long resident of Lake County.  After high school, Catherine played professional basketball for the "All American Redheads" team, traveling and playing across the country.  She later worked in production as a welder for Heckethorn Manufacturing in Dyersburg.  She was a devoted member of Tiptonville First Baptist Church, where she enjoyed bible study and is remembered for always having a sack of candy to share before services began.  She never met a stranger and loved time spent on telephone calls with friends and family.  

Catherine is survived by her son, Kevin Hassell, and wife, Tabitha, of Obion, TN, her life-long friend and companion, Ms. Norma Reynolds and was greatly loved as "Granny Catherine" by her eleven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her parents and her son, Gary Millard Deweese.  

Funeral services for Ms. Catherine Deweese will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at th4 Tiptonville First Baptist Church, officiated by Bro. John Troutman.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m.  and interment will follow the service at the New Hope Cemetery in Weakly County, TN.  Family members and friends will be honored to serve as pallbearers.
