Obituary

Carolyn J. Rea, 75, of Dyersburg, TN, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at West Tennessee Healthcare Dyersburg Hospital.

She was born on March 18, 1948, in Memphis, TN, to the late Comer Winford Young and Janice McCalley Young. Carolyn was a homemaker and a member of West Dyersburg Church of Christ, where she was an active member of the Ladies Bible Class that she really enjoyed. She loved to sew, garden and raised vegetables for the elderly at her church. Carolyn raised chickens and gathered and gave away eggs every day to friends and neighbors. She was a big encourager for everyone and worked really hard with her boys to encourage them to become Eagle Scouts. Carolyn was a Cub Scout Leader and Trainer.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2023 at West Dyersburg Church of Christ with Bro. Jim Chamblee officiating. Burial will be in Dyer County Memorial Gardens. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

The family will receive visitors from 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 31, 2023 at West Dyersburg Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Johnny H. Rea, Jr. of Dyersburg, TN; three sons, John Michael Rea of Dyersburg, TN, Brian Thomas Rea and wife, Michelle, of LaGrange, KY and Kevin Daniel Rea and wife, Kelly, of Dyersburg, TN; a brother, Keith David Young and wife, Trish, of Greece; six grandchildren, Hunter Rea, Skylar Rea, Hannah Rea, Jackson Rea, Rachel Dietrich and Josh Soper; and one great-grandson, Everett Dietrich.

In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by two sisters, Peggy Pauley and Barbara Young.

Pallbearers will be Garry Butler, Kevin Daniel Rea, Brian Thomas Rea, Hunter Rea, Jackson Rea and Michael Forrest. Honorary pallbearer will be Ken Pittman.
