Carolyn Johnson
Hayden
March 24, 1946 – August 10, 2025
On August 10, 2025, Carolyn took her last breath in this life, and her first breath in the arms of Her Savior, Jesus. Carolyn was born on March 24, 1946 in Humboldt, TN to Helen (Roberson) Johnson and Ezra Johnson, both of which preceded her in death.
Carolyn is survived by her husband of 58 years, Joe; and by a Japanese exchange student that is like a daughter to her, Mami Dean; and granddaughter, Mei Dean of Tokyo, Japan. She is also survived by one brother, Kenneth Johnson (Nancy); and three sisters, Gracie Mooneyham (Chuck) of Water Valley, MS, Linda Stout of Dyersburg, TN and Ruth Sawyers (Lewis) of Hixson, TN. Carolyn is also survived by 9 nephews and nieces; and one deceased nephew. Carolyn had a close relationship with Joe's brother and sisters and considered them as her family also.
Carolyn was a 1964 Graduate of Dyersburg High School. After marrying in 1967, Carolyn was employed at the Federal Reserve Bank in Memphis. After moving back to Dyersburg, Carolyn was employed at First Citizen's National Bank where she held various positions until being forced to retire due to serious medical conditions.
Carolyn accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior while at Youth Camp and remained a devout Christian her entire life. She was a great Sunday School Teacher, not only teaching Young Girls about Jesus, but also leading them in projects, especially to visit and serve the elderly.
Carolyn enjoyed traveling with Joe to many National Parks in the US. and seeing the natural beauty of this great country. Her health problems often made it difficult to sit up so Carolyn would lay in bed in the rear of the van while Joe drove her around the country, often in the company of her dogs, Spiffy and Penny.
Carolyn spent her last few months at Oakwood Nursing Home and I am so thankful for the excellent care extended to Carolyn during that time. The care and compassion for Carolyn will never be forgotten. Also, Caris Hospice Staff were so helpful and supportive thru this difficult time. Many Thanks to the friends and family that came and lifted Carolyn during this time and kept her spirits up.
