Carolyn Cooper passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026, at Patriot Health and Rehabilitation Center in Paris, TN, at the age of 83. Born in Dyersburg, Tennessee, on February 2, 1943, Carolyn’s life was defined by her devotion to her family, her enduring faith, her professional dedication, and her passion for nurturing others.
A proud member of the Dyersburg community from the very beginning, Carolyn attended Dyersburg High School, graduating in the class of 1961. During her school years, Carolyn distinguished herself not only through her academic drive but also as a talented athlete, playing basketball for the Trojans. Her remarkable spirit, kindness, and grace shone through even as a young woman, earning her the honor of being named Miss Dyersburg High School.
Carolyn’s professional and spiritual life came together in her role as financial secretary for the First United Methodist Church. With her steady hand and conscientious nature, she provided invaluable support, touching the lives of many within her church family over the years. Her faith-inspired service was matched only by her warmth and generosity to those around her.
Carolyn’s life was rich with the simple joys she cherished. She was an avid reader and found deep enjoyment in music, filling her home with warmth, laughter, and song. Her adventurous spirit led her and her loved ones on many memorable camping trips, where stories were shared under the stars. Throughout her life, Carolyn’s greatest joy came from the family bonds she nurtured so deeply.
She was deeply devoted to her loved ones, especially her grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable pride. Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Catherine McCann and husband, Scott, of Springville, TN; her son, Lynn Cooper and wife, Robyn, of Knoxville, TN; and her cherished grandchildren, Spencer Beck, Carson Cooper, Cameron Cooper, and Jackson McCann. Their lives have been brighter through Carolyn’s unwavering love and guidance.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Cooper; her parents, Leonard and Dorothy Sorrell; as well as her brothers, Jerry Sorrell and Jimmy Sorrell.
The family will receive friends during a visitation to be held on Sunday, July 12, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Dyersburg Funeral Home, located at 420 US-51 ByPass W, Dyersburg, TN 38024. A private service for the family will be held at a later date.
Carolyn Cooper’s life was a testament to kindness, steadfastness, and love. Her presence and memory will forever remain in the hearts of her family, her friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
