Billy Summers Yates, 83, of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at his residence.
He was founder and owner of General Appliance and Furniture Company, a member of First United Methodist Church and a U.S. Navy veteran.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Dyersburg with Dr. Phillip Cook and the Rev. Wade Cox officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive visitors at 4-7 p.m. Friday at the church.
Survivors include his wife, Emmalene Eidson Yates of Dyersburg; two daughters, Laura Yates Emerson of Huntsville, Ala. and Jane Yates Moll of Charlotte, N.C.; two sons, Mark Yates and Joe Yates, both of Dyersburg; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur P. Yates and Nettie Summers Yates.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be Sellers Sunday School Class, Red Bond, Stallings Lipford, Don Pennington, Billy Miles Davis, Milton Magee, James Cooper, Jerry Lock and Claude Lecklitner.
The family requests that any memorials be directed to the American Red Cross or the Salvation Army.
