Billy Sykes, 81, of Dyersburg, died Thursday, July 12, 2012 at Jackson Regional Hospital.
He was retired from the maintenance department with Dana Corporation, member of Southside Baptist Church, member of the American Legion and an Army Veteran of the Korean War.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Wright officiating. Burial will be in Rehoboth Cemetery in Roellen.
The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his two daughters, Judy Roberson and husband, Morris, and Linda Whitaker and husband, Larry, all of Newbern; a son, Mark Sykes and wife, Michelle, of Dyersburg; a step-daughter, Jesselyn Pierce and husband, David, of Dickson; two step-sons, Buddy Prince of Dickson and Mike Prince of Dyersburg; a sister, Mary Stanley and husband, Charles, of Newbern; a brother, Roger Sykes and wife, Sandy, of Bogota; a special friend, Lou Baker of Arlington; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Prince Sykes; his parents, George and Ethel Whitaker Sykes; and a brother, Joe Sykes.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Rigsby, Mike Aday, Chuck Campbell, Teddy Ogden, Chris Reeves and Lynn Ogden. Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Barham and employees of the Dyersburg Fire Department.
The family requests that memorials be directed to Dyersburg/Dyer County Humane Society.
