Obituary

Billy Stevens, 76, of Bonicord, TN, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2020 at his residence.

Billy was born on October 22, 1943, in Dyersburg, TN, to the late N.C. and Gertrude Hall Stevens. He was a forklift operator for Tupperware, where he worked for 30 years and he also worked for 10 years at Huish. Billy proudly served his country in the United States Army 3 SQDN of 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment during the Vietnam War in 1965. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Divide-60 and the Combat Infantryman Badge. Billy was a member of Dyersburg Church of God. Fishing, hunting, reading books, traveling and working word search books were some of his favorite hobbies. Billy loved to go to the Great Smokey Mountain National Park and he enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and having fun.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2020 in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Joseph Ballinger and the Rev. Robert Davis. Burial will be in Bellevernon Cemetery in Friendship, TN.

The Stevens Family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at Dyersburg Funeral Home.

Survivors include his son, Dewayne Stevens of Dyersburg, TN; two daughters. Tracy Purvis (Pinkie) of Crockett Mills, TN and Angie Wilson (Kevin) of Dyersburg, TN; three grandchildren, Allison Damas (Brad) of Savannah, GA, Adam Purvis (Claire) and Austin Purvis (Haley), all of Dyersburg, TN; two great-grandchildren, Nash Taylor Damas and Nori Ann Hope Purvis; and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Lindsey Deaton (Jackie) of Halls, TN, Pauline Leake (Aubrey) and Janis Meadows, all of Dyersburg, TN and Catherine Jones (Eddie) of Ripley, TN.

In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Deaton Stevens; and a son, Bryan Keith Stevens.

Pallbearers will be Stephen Leake, Austin Purvis, Adam Purvis, Dustin Rigsby, Jason Funderburk and Brad Damas. Honorary pallbearers will be Lindsey Deaton, Aubrey Leake, Eddie Jones, Scotty Leake and Glendale Brasfield.
