Billie "Bill" Edwin Acred, 88, of Dyersburg, TN, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2020 at his residence.
Bill was born on May 16, 1932, in Dyersburg, TN, to the late Sam Acred and Maud Effie Robbins Hodge. He was the owner of Acred Shoe Store for 67 years, served as a shoe cobbler and enjoyed fitting 4 generations of children. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, where he received the Air Medal. His air group bombed and destroyed the bridges on the Yalu River between China and North Korea to impede the Chinese Army from aiding the North Koreans. Bill was a member of the American Legion and in 1960, he was sent to interview WWI hero Alvin York. He served as a Dyersburg City Alderman and he previously farmed, raising cattle and crops.
Private graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, October 12, 2020 at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Mary Beth Bernheisel officiating. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
The family will receive visitors from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2020 at Dyersburg Funeral Home.
Survivors include his two daughters, Laurie Acred-Natelson and husband, Stephen, of Knoxville, TN and Jane Ann Smith of Goodland, FL.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Callie Lu Acred; and a sister, Violet June Gentile.
Pallbearers will be Matt Ketchum, Corey Jeffries, Jamie Hudson, Jamie Wilson, Tommy Ratliff and Tommy Wright.
Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
