Betty Joan Moore's Obituary
Ms. Betty Joan Moore, 69, of Caseyville, IL, formerly of Tatumville, TN passed away on December 21, 2009.
She was a 1958 graduate of Trimble High School, Trimble, TN. She was a graduate of the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA. She had lived and worked in Memphis, TN with the Memphis Police Department. She began her career there as a Meter Maid. She excelled in her work and at the time of her retirement she had achieved the rank of Captain, being the first female Captain in the history of the Memphis Police Department.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m., graveside at Fairview Cemetery with Mr. Bill Teague officiating. The family will receive visitors at 10 a.m. at Dyersburg Funeral Home.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Margaret Moore of Tatumville, TN; a brother, Bobby Moore of Dyersburg; another brother, Joel Moore of Memphis, TN and a sister, Wanda Murphy of Memphis, TN, a nephew, Bobby Joe Welch.
She is survived by three sisters, Grace Wiseman of Memphis, Margaret (Teenie) Ellis of Oakland, TN and Glenda Whaley of Collierville, TN and one brother, Mark Moore of Brandon, MS. She also leaves nieces, Christy Ellis, Amanda Moore, Rhonda and Sabrina Murphy; and nephews, Jeff Moore, Keith Moore, Jimmy Welch, Kevin Ellis and Adam Moore.
The family requests that any memorials be directed to the Memphis Humane Society.
