Mrs. Betty Hayes, of Tiptonville, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at Okeena Health and Rehabilitation in Dyersburg.
Betty was born January 11, 1943, in Centerville, TN to the late Herbert and Flora Windsor. She was a graduate of Dyersburg State Community College's Nursing Program. She spent over 30 years caring for others at the Reelfoot Manor Nursing Home, even passing on patient information to the staff while facing her own health concerns. Her husband Pete Hayes kept a large garden for many years, and she enjoyed canning and putting back whatever he grew for their family. She was a life-long member of Jones Chapel Church of Christ near Tiptonville and always devoted time to studying scripture and her Sunday School lessons.
Betty is survived by her son, Kenneth Hayes; her daughters, Becky Rodriquez and husband, Jerry, and Sheila Walley and husband, Robert; a daughter-in-law, Tammy Maxwell Hayes; a brother-in-law, Bill Hayes; and a sister-in-law, Gwen Hayes. She was greatly loved as "Nanny" by her grandchildren; Cody and Kyle Rodriquez, Shane, Joshua and Nick Walley, Mark Caleb Hayes, Carli Maxwell, Kristen Hayes French and Matthew, Erik and Sara Hayes; as well as nineteen great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Milton E.D. "Pete" Hayes; her son, Mark Hayes; her brothers, John and Charles Windsor; and sisters, Nancy Sutherland and Georgia Whitson.
