Bettie Wynn Sumara, 80, of Tiptonville, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009 at her residence.
She was a self-employed businesswoman, a graduate of Gulf Park High School in Gulfport, Miss., attended Duke University, was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, the Lake County Election Commission, Lake County Historical Society, Primary Care Board, Tiptonville Women's Club, and Tiptonville Public Library, involved in agriculture, active in the American Cancer Society, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, avid birdwatcher, loved to travel and was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Father Russell Harbaugh officiating. Burial will be in Haynes Memorial Gardens in Tiptonville.
The family will receive visitors from 5:30-8 p.m. today at the Tiptonville chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home.
Survivors include a daughter, Michele Sumara and husband, Michael Gordon, of Milwaukee, Wis.; a son, Ed Sumara of Wynnburg; and four grandchildren, Kim Sumara of Arlington, Joseph Sumara of Tiptonville, Isabel Gordon and Sam Gordon, both of Milwaukee, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 38 years, C.K.G. "Mike" Sumara; and her parents, Clay F. and Mai Bennett Wynn.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Sumara, Sam Gordon, Josh Thompson, Sam Bradshaw, Peter Keiser, Glenn Young, Michael Gordon and Joe Saloom. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeanette Cates, Mary Tipton, Beth Haynes, Helen Lovell, Virginia Hayes, Helen Lindamood, Terri Byrd, Sue Hurst, Soraya Parr, Elizabeth Kendall, Kim Sumara, Isabel Gordon, Tish Mitchell, Lilly McCain, Brin Baucum, Dale Baucum and Jenny Mooring.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Tiptonville Public Library, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
