Aleatha Paulette Kesterson, age 77, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026, in her hometown of Dyersburg, Tennessee, just weeks shy of her 78th birthday. Born on July 21, 1948, in Dyersburg, Aleatha’s life was marked by warmth, friendship, and a deep love for her family.
Aleatha was a woman who truly never met a stranger. She had an ease with conversation and a gift for making those around her feel welcomed and valued. Her love of talking was one of her most defining qualities, whether she was catching up with a new acquaintance or sharing stories and laughter with those she cherished most.
Family was always at the heart of Aleatha’s life. She treasured time spent with her loved ones, especially her children and grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable joy. Those closest to her know that her happiest moments were those spent surrounded by family, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.
Aleatha brought a zest and unique style to all her pursuits. Shopping was a favorite pastime—she enjoyed hunting for special finds and always had an expert eye for things that reflected her taste. Never far from a book, Aleatha’s love of reading enriched her life and conversations. She also found delight in the challenge of crossword puzzles, always eager to test her knowledge and wit.
Known for her favorite color, black, she expressed her individuality with grace and confidence. Aleatha’s genuine spirit and vibrant personality left an indelible impression on those privileged to know her.
She is survived by her daughter, Kristen Fenton and husband, Harold, of Newbern, TN; a son, Richard Kirk Kesterson of Dyersburg, TN; six grandchildren, April Anderson, Elizabeth Mathieu, Kayla Kesterson, Ryder Fenton Luke Fenton and Kole Fenton; and two great-grandchildren, Halle Mathieu and Benjamin Mathieu.
Aleatha was preceded in death by her husband, Ricky Kesterson; a daughter, Kimberly Johnson; and her parents, Edward Shelton Smith and Opal Aleatha Blalock Smith.
A celebration of life service for Ms. Aleatha Kesterson will be held at a later date. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Aleatha Paulette Kesterson’s memory will continue to inspire and bless her family and all whose lives she touched. Her legacy of openheartedness, humor, and devotion to those she loved will not be forgotten.
